I didn’t plan any of this.
Less than a year ago I had no degree, no contacts, no training. Just a laptop, a strong opinion about how stories get told, and a restlessness I hadn’t found a use for yet. So I started. Then I started over. Different niches, different angles, different versions of who I thought I was supposed to be. It took me a while to see that the starting over wasn’t failure. It was research.
The writing was the one thing that never changed.
I’m Julia, a writer and creative director in Cape Town. In the last six months I’ve built a website from nothing, developed brand identities, run social strategy, written long-form essays, designed content systems, and produced a human trafficking awareness campaign for a nonprofit, all while working out what I actually do. What I landed on: I tell stories, and I build the places other people’s stories can live in.
Almost everything I know, I taught myself. Content strategy, brand voice, graphic design, campaign work on sensitive subjects, social media across platforms. Right now I’m going deeper on design and learning photography properly, because I want to own the whole thing, from the idea to the image.
I’m drawn to fashion, culture, and the kind of storytelling that makes people feel less alone. The work I’m proudest of meant something to someone.
I’m open to editorial roles, brand partnerships, agency work, and collaborations. If something I’ve made made you feel something, let’s talk.
